The forests look more alive, and more welcoming. A very interesting feature added is the density of leaves. More details were added to in-game objects like grass, rocks, different types of stones, trees, and plants. Optimum does a couple of things to upgrade visuals, higher texture resolution is just one aspect. The main difference between other realistic texture packs and Optimum is that with other packs visuals are stunning, but the performance is weak. Optimum Realism mostly focuses on the latter.
Today, Minecraft's visual design may seem a little outdated to some people, and nostalgic to others, and then there is the third category of players, for whom the looks just simply make the game unplayable.
